Golf

The Kahkwa Club is the premier golf country club in northwestern Pennsylvania. Designed by the famed golf course architect Donald Ross, Kahkwa offers an extremely playable, yet very challenging layout. We're proud to have hosted many of our country's most prestigious national and regional championships.

Donald Ross, fame architect of Pinehurst was engaged to lay out the links at Kahkwa. In the early days, as in Scotland, the holes were known by names as well as numbers. Among the early golfers at Kahkwa, number 12 was referred to as "Long Tom;" Number 13 was "School House;" and Number 3 was the traditional "Pond." Upon completion of the original nine holes, with the help of Theron R. Palmer and others, the property was acquired east of the entry road so that the present first nine holes could be built. The first nine holes are now the second nine of the present course. Those holes were laid out by Donald Ross as well.

Named the #21 venue in Pennsylvania in the 2015-2016 Golf Digest best-in-state course ranking, The Kahkwa Club offers an 18 Hole, Par 72 course for its Members and their guests. The grounds also feature a driving range as well as a 3-acre short game practice facility. The Club has hosted three USGA Championships, including the 2016 U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur Championship.

      Handicaps and USGA Recommendations

Many players have the same course handicaps from the White and Blue tees since the slope ratings are close together. However, that is the player's course handicap from that tee only if everyone they are playing against is playing the same tee. If some players playing from the White tees against some players playing from the Blue tees, the players playing from the White tees would receive 2 shots less. This is calculated by subtracting the White course rating from the Blue course rating (70.9 - 68.9 = 2). This is the formula the USGA recommends for players who play different tees to abide by the Handicap System.

We carry out several tournaments throughout our Golf Season each year for our Members and their guests. Most events fill to capacity! The highlight of our schedule is our annual Three Day Men’s Invitational in July each season.
